The Complexities of Pelvic Pain

The Complexities of Pelvic Pain

Persistent pelvic pain is estimated to affect a staggering 1 in 5 women and 1 in 12 men. Individuals suffering from pelvic pain often experience poor quality of life due to the physical pain affecting social and psychological factors of life. They may experience levels of depression, anxiety, insomnia, as well as difficulty with work and have difficulties with relationships as a result of their pain. 1
Pelvic pain can be challenging to diagnose and manage due to its complex nature. It is a multi-system disorder and there may be:

  • Pain from pelvic organs
  • Musculoskeletal response to pain
  • Central sensitization
  • Psychological conditions as a result of the pain

Persistent pelvic pain requires a comprehensive pain management plan but often care becomes easily fragmented across a range of health professionals.2

At Metro Pain Group we recognise and manage the biopsychosocial factors of pain through our multidisciplinary team. We offer both interventional evidence-based treatments and conservative treatments, including:

  • Physiotherapy
  • Medication
  • Medial Branch Blocks and Joint Blocks
  • Neuromodulation

Our doctors are a team of highly experienced individuals including those with experience in pelvic pain conditions and musculoskeletal pain physicians. We also have physiotherapists, a rehabilitation co-ordinator and a psychologist to create a comprehensive and seamless experience. If you require specialist care, book an appointment using our online form or call us on 03 9595 6111.
